Material Manager Position

Job purpose

The Material Manager responsibility and accountability for the Materials Planning and Warehouse area determining with right volume of materials and products to hold where in the supply chain which includes: managing inventory control, warehouse storage, distribution and replenishment plans.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Overall responsibility for all Material Planning and Warehouse activities across the business.
  • Create and implement best practice Material Planning and Warehose vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Ensure material scheduling strategy and processes are in place and work effectively in order to ensure material supply meets internal and external customer requirements with minimum stock levels, whilst optimizing costs.
  • Oversee and manage inventory integrity and review ways to reduce inventory levels
  • Ensure regular stock checks take place and controlling inventory levels by conducting physical counts from time to time in order to keeping stock controls system up to date and ensuring reconciling with data storage system.
  • Provide leadership, coordination and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles
  • Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
  • Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the organisation and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
  • Work with management team to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives or KPIs in order to monitor and achieve best performance.

Work experience and education requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in material management /warehouse/logistics or relevant field, or at least 8 years working experience in material planning/commodity/purchasing/supply chain role.
  • Work experience with ERP / Inventory Control System and LEAN environment is preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • Preferably knowledge in Safety and Health Standards
  • Advanced knowledge of forecasting and budgeting processes.
